Chartrange was appointed to deliver both the demolition and groundworks at the all-new robotics innovation centre for Salford University.

The Centre will enable the University’s robotics and automation specialists to expand their work with SMEs around the country to provide solution development, design, testing and validation of digital innovation. Disciplines covered by the development will include the dynamic and growing sectors of robotics for intelligent infrastructure, digital automation and supply chain improvement, as well as health, wellbeing and integrated care technologies.

Scope of works

1st Phase – Demolition
• Soft Strip, Demoltion of building, Service disconnections, temporary works, dust and vibration management, site levelling, site clearance and asbestos removal

2nd Phase – Groundworks
Excavation and Filling
• Excavation to reduced level
• Breaking out concrete foundations
• Earthworks support to faces of excavation
• Filling to piling mat, fill compaction
• Geotextile membrane – 1786m2

Piling
• Pile cropping

Foundations
• Retaining walls bases, pile caps and ground beams and lift pit base (including formwork and steel reinforcment)

Drainage
• 150mm – 275mm diameter, up to 3.25m depth – both plastic and clay
• Drainage channels
• PPIC manholes up to 450mm diameter x 2.16m
• Pre cast concrete manholes
• Attenuation tank pluvial cube – 41.89m3
