Scope of works

Chartrange was appointed by Morgan Sindall to deliver the externals package at the Manchester City Council Depot on Hammerstone Road, Gorton with a value of £2.5M. The project formed part of the Council’s wider initiative to modernise and future-proof their depot facilities and site infrastructure.

Chartrange’s remit covered a comprehensive set of civil engineering and construction activities, including:

Earthworks & Ground Preparation

• Bulk earthworks of approximately 8,000m³.
• Removal of existing obstructions and unsuitable materials.
• CBR testing to confirm ground stability.
• Off-site disposal and recycling of waste materials.
• Importation of certified material to required specifications.

Drainage 

• Installation of clay and PCC pipework for both foul and surface water systems.
• Construction of an attenuation tank to manage surface water and Oil separation.
• Installation of ACO channels, Gatic covers, and associated infrastructure.

Ducting and Utilities

• Excavation and installation of draw pits and feeder pillars.
• Provision of infrastructure for EV charging points.
• Installation of ducting for lighting and CCTV columns to enhance site safety and functionality.

External Finishes and Infrastructure

• Laying of kerbs, edgings, bollards, and paving to create a durable and functional site layout.
• New Traffic Route road construction and preparation for tarmacking

Specialist Building Installation 

• Construction of a new vehicle wash-out building, incorporating:
• Excavation and formwork.
• Foundations, steelwork, and reinforced concrete.
• Slabs and walls built to specification for long-term heavy-use durability.
